Facing your trip in the right physical and mental condition will help you free yourself from the stress accumulated during your hectic daily life. Here are some tips on how to relax and prepare for an unforgettable holiday in Sardinia!

Before the flight

  • Plan your flight in advance, trying to travel during the day if possible.
  • Avoid strenuous activities the day before your trip.* Don’t smoke.
  • Take the time to complete all flight formalities so you can face your trip in the right mental state.
  • Apply a good moisturizer to your face: air conditioning tends to dry out the skin.
  • Glasses are preferable to contact lenses on the plane to avoid eye irritation.
  • Wear comfortable clothing, avoiding tight or restrictive clothing, and wear flat, comfortable shoes. Bring a warm sweater in your carry-on luggage, as the air conditioning system can significantly lower the cabin temperature.
  • If you’re worried about airsickness, reserve seats over the wings, where possible, as they’re less likely to feel the rolling of the plane in disturbed areas.
  • Those with hand pain or stiffness should obtain a foam ball before departure to squeeze during the flight.
  • Those with circulation problems should wear elastic stockings.
  • After check-in, take a walk around the terminal to prepare for a long period of sitting and relaxing.

During the flight

  • Obtain a special inflatable pillow for those with neck pain.
  • Avoid exposure to air conditioning jets directed at the neck.
  • Do not smoke during the flight. Some major airlines (e.g., Air France) offer nicotine replacement products upon request. These tablets can help relieve nicotine withdrawal symptoms.
  • Make sure your seat belt isn’t too tight, as it can restrict blood circulation.
  • Stretch your legs and arms every 30 minutes or so. Get up occasionally and walk up and down the aisle, or do simple stretching exercises.
  • Eat light meals, eat in moderation, and limit carbonated drinks, tea, and coffee.
  • Drink plenty of still water often, preferably in small quantities.
  • Moderate your alcohol consumption, as these are absorbed more easily by the body at high altitudes due to the low air pressure inside the cabin and the dehydration caused by the air conditioning.
  • Limit your nicotine consumption.
  • Engine noise can be irritating, especially on long-haul flights. It’s advisable to use earplugs or listen to relaxing music.
  • Every plane is equipped with a first aid kit. All crew members have taken specific training and are able to address any health problems passengers may have. In case of serious problems, they can request the help of a doctor on board or contact the medical teams on the ground for remote advice. Upon arrival at the airport, the patient will immediately receive any care that could not be provided on board.

After landing

  • Walk slowly around the airport to restore your circulation.
  • Sit comfortably and raise your feet in the air.
  • Plan for a rest period if the flight has been very long. In case of emergency, remember that the first aid station at Olbia Airport is located in the middle of the terminal, next to the bar.
