Artistic craftsmanship takes center stage at North Sardinia airports

Artisans at the Airport – the celebration of artistic craftsmanship and passengers returns to North Sardinia’s airports. It begins at Olbia Costa Smeralda Airport on December 12-13 and continues at Alghero Riviera del Corallo on December 19-20.

Artistic craftsmanship takes center stage at North Sardinia airports for two pre-Christmas events dedicated to promoting local excellence.

Artisans at the Airport returns, the event promoted by the Regional Department of Tourism, Handicrafts, and Commerce of the Sardinia Region aimed at promoting and enhancing the island’s artistic craftsmanship through the airport system. Organized in collaboration with the management companies of Olbia Airport, Geasar, and Alghero, Sogeaal, it will be hosted in the main halls of the two regional airports. The first scheduled event will be held in Olbia on December 12-13, continuing in Alghero on December 19-20. In both, the protagonists will be artisans registered in the Sardinia Region’s artistic craftsmanship showcase – www.sardegnaartigianato.com.

The event will unfold in a lively and engaging atmosphere, offering passengers and all those visiting the airports during the four days an immersive and unique experience through the setup of an exhibition market of artistic craftsmanship, designed with the aim of promoting Sardinian excellence, animated by a dense program of workshops and demonstrations. Passengers and visitors will indeed have the opportunity to see the artisans at work and experience the creation of an artistic artifact that embodies centuries-old traditions, passion, commitment, and Sardinia’s rich tangible and intangible cultural heritage.

To bring “Artisans at the Airport” to life, 32 master artisans (16 for Olbia and 16 for Alghero) have been selected, representing the sectors included in Sardinia’s artistic craftsmanship showcase and featured on the regional Department of Tourism, Handicrafts, and Commerce website, sardegnaartigianato.com. But that’s not all. “Artisans at the Airport” will be an opportunity to involve departing passengers. Each day, 8 lucky passengers will be rewarded with one of the artifacts created by the master artisans present, thus taking an authentic piece of Sardinia with them.

The event will be accompanied by traditional music and concerts, live radio broadcasts, and entertainment activities.

Silvio Pippobello, CEO of the management companies for Alghero and Olbia Airports: “With Artisans at the Airport, we reaffirm our commitment to making North Sardinia’s airports spaces dedicated also to the promotion of the territory and the destination. The intent is to engage passengers and visitors to present an authentic taste of Sardinia, an expression of passion, traditions, and creativity, and to promote local craftsmanship and the small businesses that are its protagonists, supporting a sector fundamental to cultural identity and the regional economy. Therefore, the customary collaboration with the Sardinia Region continues to offer a unique and high-value experience to our passengers and the local community.”

The Artisans at the Airport Program

The two days at each airport will be enriched by entertainment moments thanks to radio speaker Max Borrelli, “Agrodeejay” Artisan of wine and music across Radio and Shows since 1979. He will have the challenging and fun task of creating a connection between the master artisans and the audience, passengers and others alike, interviewing and rewarding them, and introducing the artists who will enliven the central area of the two airports in Olbia and Alghero. There will also be musical moments and performances by Beppe Dettori. In Olbia on December 13, the Tenores di Oliena “Su Populu Sardu” will be present, while Alghero on December 19 will feature the participation of the Coro di Bonorva “Paulicu Mossa” directed by master Marco Lambroni.
